another event... took the flyer from the table with stickers...
some supporters who follow her in her stops in NC? she mentioned she see some familiar faces in the crowds..
the posters she was pointing to when she reminded everyone the time to vote...
got 2! this was chloe's btw.. I took mine before I left..
am glad that I came to the event cause it's not everyday you get to see politics up close and personal.. was commending to my friend that it's the best time to be in NC.. what with the NCAA tournament (my teammates were in UT when they won NCAA football and they said the street went wild... I am seriously thinking of going to the union to watch the game UNC vs Kanas.. may be packed but should be fun), the 5th year in Iraq (apparently NC is a state concerned about military as there are a huge number in the army... like how Iowa is concerned about NAFTA, NC is apparently big on Iraq), the spring after the credit/mortgage crisis (so that the prof have just enough time to incorporate into the syllabus), the election and how NC has become more important than usual... it is always good to head to the US for exchange but now the best place to be in exchange got to be NC...
she made an effort to connect with the students, as part of the young woman voters (she says at 28, she may be older than most but nevertheless, she is part of the group) but she seems really tired at the start.. enthusiastic level wasn't up though the thoughtful public speaking PR tactics were still visible. the eye contact, the small jokes, the 'gosh' whenever she had to pick a question from the floor, the exclamation that a question was a good one/one not asked before ( in response to the question is a vote for hilary a vote for bill, she said she heard that often but never quite like that/ his [the person who posted the question] words, not mine)...
I guess she really does believe in her mother's campaign (not just because she is my mother").. she was excellent with the facts, energy statistics 9she spent a good amount on that), the in-depth research, the detailed but somehow lack of focus (tired maybe?) answers.. nevertheless impressive with the number game she tosses out.. I mean, she must have field thousands of such questions all the time..
I like the idea of a universal health plan (and her story of how a sick and pregnant woman, as told by the sheriff in one of the states she and her mother been to, died because she was unable to afford insurance of the hospital fees 2 times in a week..) and the of economic independence so that at least it means the US has the moral voice to oppose their creditors of their blotchy human rights, IP issues.. I like the idea of a ready-to-lead-from-day1 commander in chief, the idea of lessening oil reliance (on mid east, former soviet union) , of developing green industry (solar but not nuclear which "everyone wants but not in their own backyard" ) even though friedman's doubts, I am not sure anyone will be able to obtain anywhere near what he has envisioned... (challenges in that industry seems insurmountable).. I like the idea of ending the genocide on Darfur, the awareness to Sudan, the push of diplomatic policies in all the countries in the world..
But I am nor sure about the the Iraq pull-out, the determination to come home now, the lack of time line for energy plan for the 10 cities ( it "depends upon the scientists, not the idealists") except for the 2025 (I think?) time limit.. I am not sure about her flip-flop stand on NAFTA (maybe it's just politics) the vote for hilary=vote for clinton.. some one commended that she wasn't sure about the seemingly changing campaign stand, from being experienced to about change (to which she seems to fumble and say abit clumsily that to her the campaign is not changing, it is about the stand towards issue and the rest doesn't matter, what it is most important is the issues, a great answer btw...)
I am not sure about the seemingly lack of economic reforms, the engagement of SEA (what I am most concerned about) and not just China, India or Taiwan so I am not sure if I am ready to be a volunteer yet.. the image of I am an independent woman contrast too greatly with the endorsement from her husband, the strong backing from him... he may be too good an asset to give up but there must be a way for them to tap on his popularity but not be seen like they are too reliant...
Ms Chelsea too a great stand though, a strong one on finding out more about who to vote for ( and ultimately to vote instead of being passive) from the debates and websites... and her stand to criticize President Bush seems to coincide with her dad's ( he went as far as not talking about Obama at all) and mum's decision to target their harsh words to "outsiders" rather than suffer backslash from supporters that do not like inter-party spats...
As much as she was pulling votes for her mother, she was raising awareness that everyone eligible can make a choice and a difference by voting...
I hope to see Senator Barack Obama before I leave.. I want to hear him inspire me, just like how Eve inspire me (mentioned how she did her best to get people to come down and the sale of her tees by student body vice president Mike Tarrant)...
